Brain NAS is in early access beta. Public ISO downloads will be available soon.

Minimum 64GB USB 3.2 stick required (128GB recommended). ~3GB download.

Flashing instructions

Recommended: Balena Etcher (Windows / macOS / Linux)

The simplest method. Three clicks: select ISO, select USB, flash.

  1. Download Balena Etcher
  2. Click "Flash from file" and select the Brain NAS ISO
  3. Select your USB stick as the target
  4. Click "Flash!" and wait for it to finish

Linux: dd command

For terminal users. Replace /dev/sdX with your USB device.

sudo dd if=brain-nas.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress oflag=sync

Warning: dd will erase the target device. Double-check the device name with lsblk first.

Windows: Rufus

If you prefer Rufus, you must use DD Image mode.

  1. Download Rufus
  2. Select your USB device
  3. Click SELECT and choose the Brain NAS ISO
  4. When prompted, choose "Write in DD Image mode" (not ISO mode)
  5. Click START

System requirements

Architecture: x86_64 (Intel/AMD)
RAM: 16GB DDR3 minimum
USB Boot: 64GB USB 3.2 minimum (128GB recommended). USB 2.0 is NOT recommended.
Network: Ethernet (WiFi not supported)
BIOS: UEFI boot required
GPU (optional): NVIDIA or AMD for transcoding/AI
